Black Tea Infused with Chinese Jujube Dates and Ginger

This delicious infused black tea combines the natural sweetness of Chinese jujube dates with the warming flavor of fresh ginger. Prepare it the night before and enjoy it with breakfast or on its own as a morning wake-up drink.

Ingredients

  • Black tea

  • Dried Chinese jujube dates, to taste

  • Fresh ginger, sliced

  • Hot water

Method

  1. Brew the black tea as you normally would, then strain out the tea leaves.

  2. Slice the fresh ginger and dried Chinese jujube dates. Pour the freshly brewed hot tea into a clean, heat-safe insulated thermos, then add the sliced ginger and jujube dates.

  3. Close the insulated thermos promptly and let everything infuse overnight while the tea stays hot. The next morning, you’ll have a fragrant and flavorful tea with the natural sweetness of Chinese jujube dates and the warming taste of ginger.

  4. There are no exact quantities needed—experiment with the jujube dates and ginger according to your own taste and sweetness preference.

  5. Enjoy it with breakfast or simply sip it on its own as your morning drink.

    Variations

If you prefer a caffeine-free tea, try toasted buckwheat tea or barley tea instead. You can also use genmaicha, a Japanese green tea with roasted rice, for a lovely toasted flavor. Traditional genmaicha contains caffeine.

Note

This infused tea is especially lovely in fall, when the weather turns cool and rainy. The warming ginger, naturally sweet jujube dates, and rich tea make it a cozy drink for a chilly morning.
